ISCA-chartered in 1958 as a division of the Illinois Guidance and Personnel Association now known as the Illinois Counseling Association. In 2021, ISCA disaffiliated from the Illinois Counseling Association to improve alignment with school counselor identity and to focus advocacy efforts for school counselors and their students.

ISCA is the Illinois division of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA). ISCA membership is over 2100 school counselors across the state of Illinois.
