State Advocacy 101

Presented by ISCA & the Advocacy Committee--Happy National School Counseling Week!

State Advocacy 101 equips school counselors with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to effectively advocate for students, school counseling programs, and the profession at the state level. Led by ISCA’s contracted lobbyists, this session provides a practical overview of how Illinois’ legislative process works and how school counselors can ethically and lawfully engage in advocacy.

Participants will learn the key distinctions between advocacy and lobbying for educators, explore real-world education policy examples, and gain actionable communication strategies they can immediately use to support ISCA’s advocacy efforts. The session is designed to help counselors feel informed, empowered, and prepared to engage with policymakers on issues impacting student well-being and school counseling practice across Illinois.

This webinar is offered at no cost as part of ISCA’s commitment to statewide advocacy. ISCA membership dues make this work possible. Member support funds professional lobbyists, legislative monitoring, policy analysis, and timely communication—ensuring school counselors have a consistent, credible voice in Springfield.
