| National School Counselor Certification - NBPTS |
This certificate is appropriate for counselors who work with students ages preK-12 grade in educational settings. These school counselors may work with individuals, small groups, a whole class or the entire school to advance student learning academically, emotionally and socially, and in the area of career development. Some may focus their counseling primarily in the area of student assistance, college planning, academic testing or a more general guidance delivery model. All school counselors practice in a manner designed to advance student learning in the areas of academics, social/emotional and career development.

- State Funding for Application
- Illinois public school teachers and school counselors who are interested in becoming a candidate for National Board Certification (http://www.nbpts.org/) for the 2006-2007 school year can apply to the Illinois State Board of Education for a one-time fee support payment of $2,000 that will be paid to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) on their behalf. The total NBPTS candidate
- application fee is $2,565.
- The Illinois State Board of Education will be receiving applications through the I-KAN Regional Office of Education (http://www.i-kan.org/nbpts_website.htm) beginning September 15, 2006, through 4:30 p.m. on October 16, 2006, for the $2,000 NBPTS support payment.
